Aren’t Security Systems Expensive?

The price of security systems and even of video cameras has dropped over the past 10 years. At Barnes Protection, we offer great rates on all our security products. We think of it like purchasing a smartphone with a 2 year contract. By signing the contract with us, the price of the system drops dramatically. Included in the contract is our requirement to monitor all signals generated by your alarm and to take the necessary action when needed. Of course, the action the monitoring station takes when an alarm is received is predetermined by you, the customer. By adding friends and family to the call sequence, many potential false alarms can be avoided.

For our standard alarm package, which includes a DSC Powerseries panel and keypad, as well as a motion sensor, 3 door or window contacts and all basement window contacts, we charge only $250+HST, plus $20+HST for monthly monitoring service on a 2 year contract. Upgrade to internet control for $175 and receive a free app for your alarm. This can be controlled remotely from anywhere in the world with internet!

Already Have a Security System?

If you already have a system we can usually use some or all of the existing material and get the alarm up and running in no time. Also if you are looking to switch providers we are always available to monitor your alarm for our low monthly price of $20/month plus HST. Whenever a switch like this is done we would test the system thoroughly for any potential problems. There is no charge to have us come and take a look!

Alarm Systems – Just to Prevent Burglary?

Alarm Systems aren’t just for burglaries anymore! Seeing as the system is monitored by trained operators it makes sense to use them for as many dangerous conditions as possible. There is no increase in price for how many devices are monitored on the system. Check out our add-ons like water leak detection, natural gas detection, smoke and CO detection, as well as sump level sensors.

These life safety zones are always on, so you can rest assured that if there is a dangerous condition at the house you will know about it!

Security Systems Ottawa – Alarm Monitoring for $20/Month + HST

Commercial alarm systems are designed to be a little more heavy-duty than their residential counterparts. On top of that, they are generally required to be supervised by a professional monitoring company. They may also incorporate security cameras and access control or card entry systems for a total security solution.

Most residential homes can be protected sufficiently with our standard alarm system package. This includes 3 door or window sensors, a motion detector, basement window contacts and a keypad. We typically install the DSC brand, which has been in business in Canada since 1979. Of course, we can install other brands if there is one you prefer.

When the alarm is tripped, the horns are sounded until a valid access code is entered at the keypad. If the system is monitored, calls are made and police or security guards can be sent if needed.

We are please to offer instantaneous email notifications for all our monitored customers, on top of the standard phone call procedure. Additionally, we offer our guarantee of affordable service! Some of the stories we’ve heard about what people pay for security products is outrageous.

Alarm Systems – Just to Detect a Burglary?

Our alarms are geared to be a total life safety solution. This means that on top of detecting break-ins, they can also monitor dangerous safety conditions like fire, carbon monoxide, natural gas, water leaks and temperature.

At Barnes Protection Services, we can monitor everything for the same low monthly fee. Make sure to talk to your insurance agent about potential discounts.

Smartphone Integration

Our newer alarms are compatible with the internet! This means you can control your alarm from your smartphone. This is especially handy if you’re thinking of cancelling your home phone line. Contact us today to get this feature set up or to see if your system is compatible.

Advantages of Burglar Alarm Systems

In today’s day and age, there’s a lot of speculation about whether or not to install a security system (also known as a burglar alarm system), and whether or not to get it monitored by a professional alarm company.

There are many advantages to having a monitored burglar alarm:

  • receive a call and email when someone breaks in
  • if someone does break in the proper authorities will be dispatched and horns will sound
  • assurance that until you get a call everything is fine at home
  • saving money on home insurance (up to 15% in some cases)
  • log of activity of who armed and who disarmed the system at what times
  • control your alarm through an app on your phone or check in from a different computer (with internet communicator only)
  • monitor other life safety conditions at the same time like smoke detectors, water sensors, furnace fail detectors, natural gas, and more

Non-monitored Systems

By going with a non-monitored system, you do lose out on some of the above, however you still can scare away any intruders with sirens and/or strobe lights. And you would know which zone(s) on the alarm tripped by looking at the memory. This is certainly better than not knowing anything happened at all!

Don’t have a phone line? No sweat. Alternative methods of communication are available.

Ottawa’s #1 Security Company

Barnes Protection Services is pleased to offer monitoring services from as low as $20/month. Call us today to book your free security consultation. We have been installing burglar alarms since 1985 and pride ourselves on our level of service.

Time to Cut the Cord

So the time has come to ditch the old phone line. Everything is going great. You’ve called the phone company, you’re saving some big bucks, and you’ve got a cell phone so all is well!

Then comes the dreaded trouble beep from your alarm keypad….

The Alarm System Uses the Phone Line to Reach the Station

Uh oh. So the alarm can’t connect to the monitoring station. You see, the traditional alarm system uses the phone line to communicate events to the station, so that proper steps will be taken such as calling the police or dispatching the fire trucks.

There is an Alternative

To keep the system monitored, you must do one of two things:

A: Get a cellular communicator that interfaces with your alarm system. This is probably the most secure means of transmission. Most alarm companies charge more for this service as there are airtime fees.

B: Get an internet communicator. This can interface your alarm to your home network and serve as the transmission line. It can also give you cool apps to control your alarm through a computer or smart phone, and give you some home automation capability. If you ever want to interface your alarm with a system like Vera or SmartThings, this is also the way to go.

PS: Although some VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) lines work with alarm systems they are not recommended!
