Access control systems, or card entry systems as they are also called, are ideally suited for businesses or large home operations. They are usually set up in busy environments like casinos to help prevent the public from wandering into restricted areas where they don’t belong. The software is setup on site so that the operator can add different users and ID tags, as well as view activity.
They are generally made up of electrical locks, or mag-locks, card or ID tag readers, and door controller stations. Additionally, exit buttons or request-to-exit motion sensors can also be used. Multiple door controller stations, even in different locations, can be synced together and viewed under one account. The door controller must be connected to the network on site via Ethernet cable.
This system allows the operator to get instant notifications for door openings or closings that are not scheduled.
The technology exists today where these systems can be synced with video cameras and alarm systems. One typical application of this would be to pull up a camera feed when a certain door opens or closes.
Additionally, all traffic is logged and can be looked back on at any time. In fact, in a workplace setting, the access control can even log employees working hours through the use of their personal ID tags.
With state of the art door locking mechanisms and card readers these systems provide a high level of security and are fully customizable. Apps are also used to give the operator remote control of the system.
Biometrics can also be used. Simply by scanning their fingerprint, an employee could gain access to the location!
